When I was just six or seven years old, my parents separated and our family was devastated. For me, as a young child, this was the darkest period of my life. However, through a visiting evangelist, my brother and sister became Christians, and such was the change it brought in their lives that soon after my mother also became a Christian. I started to go to church alongside my mum, and not long after, I too, gave my life to God.
At the age of twelve I started to sing the occasional duet in Church, and it was then that I realised that God had actually given me a good singing voice. I started to have singing lessons, and to use my voice more and more in ministry. After leaving university, I started to work as a private music teacher until I had my daughter, Jessica, in February 2006.
In 2002, I married Mark, and we came on a short mission’s trip to Slovakia, a country I had never even heard of before this trip. I’d never been to an Eastern European country before, and at first I didn’t really like it very much. In fact, I remember jokingly thinking to myself, “Just watch, God will go and send me to be a missionary here!” Little did I know that this was exactly God’s intention. However, over the next few years we built up friendships with some of the people in Slovakia, and also visited on two occasions, and over that time my love for the country and people grew and grew.
When Mark suggested to me in September of 2005 that he felt God was calling us to move to Slovakia, I was a little surprised as I had recently started my own teaching business and was also five months pregnant. However, over the next few months, God confirmed to me in a number of different ways that this indeed was His will for our lives. So shortly after having our daughter, we put our house on the market and, to cut a long story short, here we are now, serving God in the wonderful country of Slovakia.
